little pip and the extinct zoo

So this is a personal project of mine that i've been working on for a while now...
It's based on little pip, as a young palentology obsessed girl, who can see the ghosts of extinct animals. She builds them an imaginary zoo and goes on adventures with them.
Ever since illustrating I am Jake last summer I have been searching for a similar project to sink my teeth into, so I did this first finished painting in a children's book style, and i'm hoping to develop the story further - for now I am just loving drawing it.

Brandon the cat gets famous

Here's another wee cat that i've drawn. For some reason whenever I hit artistic block, I just have to draw cats until I get through it. I hope you like him!

(Oh and my boyfriend named him Brandon. It's different, but I like it)

Snow shoes - long strides

For mother's day I have drawn my mum a pair of snow shoes! Not very seasonal, but she's currently writing a play involving arctic explorers and lots and lot's of snoes shoes. Because I get to go home so rarely, I always like to make something for my mum.

On second thoughts the she may be sick of they sight of those shoes...hmm...

Textures and Colour study

Late night painting and trying out some brush textures is a great way of unfocussing your mind and coming up with new ideas. Paint paint paint... :)

Monarch of the Glen

I'm feeling inspired by some deer photo's that i've been looking at, so I thought i'd do a wee sketch of our very own monarch of the glen, (sadly not the excellent tv show) - just in time for Burn's night.

Stromness sketchings - Northlight Studios

In Stromness, my home, the winding streets are filled with strange corners and unexpected turns. I love how this corner next to Northlight studios is cut out to let cars through the tiny inexplicably two way street. There is nowhere quite like Stromness ... as George Mackay Brown said "The street uncoiled like a sailors rope from North to South"

I've started attending the wonderful "All the Young Nudes" life drawing nights at The City Cafe, in Edinburgh. They are brilliant fun, hosted by a very lovely lady who makes great mix tapes for the night...I had no idea just how rusty i had become though - must practise more!
